If you’re depositing at SA casinos with cash vouchers, you’ve got two main choices: 1Voucher and OTT Voucher. For all deposit methods including EFT and mobile options, see our voucher deposits hub. They look similar on paper — both are prepaid, both are instant, both are accepted at the same casinos. But they’re not identical, and the right choice depends on where you live and how you shop.

I bought both in March 2026, deposited both at the same casino on the same day, and compared every detail. Our testing methodology covers how we evaluate payment methods side by side. Voucher availability and limits may vary by location — confirm at your local retailer. Honestly, the biggest difference wasn’t the vouchers themselves — it was the queue. Shoprite on a Saturday morning versus my spaza shop with zero wait. Ja, convenience won.

Here are both receipts from our March 2026 test purchase:

The quick answer

Choose 1Voucher if: You shop at Shoprite, Checkers, or Ackermans regularly and want the longest possible expiry (24 months).

Choose OTT Voucher if: You’re closer to spaza shops than supermarkets, or you need to deposit more than R3,000 in a single voucher (OTT goes up to R5,000).

Where we found each voucher

I did a real-world availability check in a suburban area of Gauteng and a township area.

Suburban area (within 2km radius):

  • 1Voucher: Available at Shoprite, PEP, and 2 Flash retailers — 4 locations
  • OTT Voucher: Available at PEP and 1 spaza — 2 locations

Township area (within 1km radius):

  • 1Voucher: Available at 1 PEP and 3 Flash spazas — 4 locations
  • OTT Voucher: Available at 6 spaza shops and 1 PEP — 7 locations

The pattern was clear: 1Voucher’s strength is formal retail (supermarkets). OTT’s strength is informal retail (spaza shops, vendor stalls). If you’re in a township or rural area where spaza shops outnumber supermarkets, OTT is likely more convenient.

Our deposit test

I deposited R200 with each voucher at Hollywoodbets on the same day.

1Voucher deposit:

  • Bought at Shoprite (Money Market counter)
  • Purchase time: ~2 minutes (short queue)
  • PIN entry at Hollywoodbets: straightforward
  • Balance update: instant
  • Total time store-to-balance: ~6 minutes

OTT Voucher deposit:

  • Bought at local spaza shop
  • Purchase time: ~1 minute (no queue)
  • PIN entry at Hollywoodbets: straightforward
  • Balance update: instant
  • Total time store-to-balance: ~4 minutes

Both worked flawlessly. The spaza shop was faster simply because there was no queue — not because of any difference in processing speed.

Beyond the basics: deeper comparison

Customer support

1Voucher support: Phone 0861 063 000. In our experience, calls were answered within 5 minutes. The agent could check voucher balances and investigate “invalid PIN” errors. Email support also available.

OTT Voucher support: Phone 0861 688 669. Similar wait times. Balance checks available via ottmobile.co.za without calling. The web balance checker is a nice touch that 1Voucher doesn’t offer.

Both are adequate. Neither is going to win awards for customer service, but for a voucher product where the main issue is “my PIN doesn’t work,” phone support is all you need.

Digital purchase options

1Voucher: Can be purchased through the 1ForYou app (part of the Flash ecosystem). This lets you buy a voucher using your bank account or card — useful if you can’t get to a physical shop but want the privacy of voucher deposits.

OTT Voucher: Digital purchases sometimes available via Flash terminals and the OTT4Me app, though availability is inconsistent. The core strength remains physical retail.

For players who want to buy vouchers from home, 1Voucher’s app integration gives it a slight edge.

Partial redemption: how it works

The two voucher systems both support partial redemption — you can deposit less than the full voucher value and save the rest for later.

1Voucher: Deposit R200 from a R500 voucher. The remaining R300 stays on the original PIN. Use the same PIN next time. No expiry reset — the original 24-month clock keeps ticking.

OTT Voucher: Same mechanism. Deposit R150 from a R300 voucher, R150 remains. Check balance at ottmobile.co.za or call 0861 688 669. Original 12-month expiry applies.

Important: Some casinos have minimum deposit thresholds (e.g., R10 or R20). If your remaining voucher balance is below the casino’s minimum, you may not be able to use it. Buy vouchers in amounts that divide evenly into your planned deposits.

Which voucher should you choose? A decision guide

Choose 1Voucher if:

  • ✅ You shop at Shoprite or Checkers regularly
  • ✅ You want the longest possible expiry (24 months)
  • ✅ You want to buy vouchers digitally via the 1ForYou app
  • ✅ You’re not sure which to pick (it’s the safest default)

Choose OTT Voucher if:

  • ✅ Your nearest shops are spaza shops, not supermarkets
  • ✅ You need to deposit more than R3,000 in a single voucher (OTT goes to R5,000)
  • ✅ You want to check your remaining balance online without calling

Choose Blu Voucher if:

  • ✅ Neither 1Voucher nor OTT is available at your nearest shop
  • ✅ You need R5,000 per voucher and prefer Shoprite (where OTT isn’t stocked)

What about Blu Voucher?

There’s a third option: Blu Voucher. It’s less widely discussed but is growing in availability. Key differences:

  • Available at some Shoprite, PEP, and independent retailers
  • Maximum R5,000 per voucher (same as OTT)
  • 12-month expiry
  • Accepted at Hollywoodbets, Betway, and some other operators (but not as universally as 1Voucher and OTT)

If neither 1Voucher nor OTT is available near you, Blu Voucher is worth checking. But for most players, 1Voucher or OTT will be the easier find.

Important: vouchers are deposit-only

Neither 1Voucher nor OTT Voucher supports withdrawals. When you want to cash out your winnings, you’ll need to withdraw via EFT to a bank account. Both Hollywoodbets and Betway process EFT withdrawals to all major SA banks.

If you don’t yet have a bank account, the fastest options are TymeBank (open an account in minutes at a Pick n Pay or Boxer kiosk with just your ID — zero monthly fees) or Capitec (quick branch sign-up, free basic savings account).

Our recommendation

For most SA punters, 1Voucher is the safer default — wider formal retail coverage, longer 24-month expiry, and Shoprite is a shop most South Africans visit regularly.

Switch to OTT if you’re in a high-density area where spaza shops are your primary retail, or if you need the higher R5,000 per-voucher limit for larger deposits.

Either way, you’re making a smart choice. Vouchers keep your banking details away from casino sites, leave no gambling footprint on your bank statement, and work even if your bank blocks casino card payments. Both are accepted at all the operators we’ve reviewed, including Hollywoodbets and Supabets. Just remember to set deposit limits — the ease of buying another voucher can make overspending tempting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use both 1Voucher and OTT Voucher at the same casino?

Yes. Every SA-licensed casino that accepts one accepts the other. You can mix and match — deposit with 1Voucher today and OTT tomorrow. The casino doesn’t care which voucher system you use.

Which voucher is easier to find in rural areas?

OTT Voucher typically has better availability in townships and rural areas due to its stronger spaza shop and informal retail network. 1Voucher is easier to find in areas with Shoprite, Checkers, or PEP branches.

Is Blu Voucher better than both?

Blu Voucher is a solid third option with R5,000 max per voucher (matching OTT), but its retail availability and casino acceptance are still narrower than either 1Voucher or OTT. It’s best as a backup when the other two aren’t available at your nearest shop.

Do vouchers appear on my bank statement?

No — that’s one of their main advantages. You pay cash at a physical shop, so there’s no electronic trail linking the purchase to gambling. The casino transaction itself is also invisible to your bank since they process the voucher PIN, not a bank transfer.

Whichever voucher you pick, decide your budget before you walk into the shop. The Rands you don’t spend are the ones you definitely keep.
