Why I started BetProof
I'm Natalia. I started BetProof because I couldn't find a single SA casino review site that had actually tested what they were writing about.
Every site I found had the same structure: a copied bonus amount (often wrong), a generic "4.5/5" rating, and a list of payment methods pulled from the casino's own marketing page. Nobody had tested whether FNB actually blocks Ozow deposits. Nobody had measured how much data the Hollywoodbets app uses. Nobody had timed a withdrawal from request to bank notification.
So I started doing it myself. I opened accounts at every major SA operator, deposited my own money, played real sessions, and timed real withdrawals. I bought 1Vouchers at Shoprite and OTT Vouchers at my local spaza shop. I deliberately used my FNB account to see what gets blocked. I played during load shedding to test what actually works when the power goes out.
BetProof is the result — every review comes from personal testing, every claim is backed by evidence, and every rating reflects what I actually experienced.
My background
I'm based in South Africa. I've been playing at SA-licensed casinos since 2022 — sports betting initially, then Spina Zonke and Aviator once those became available through the bookmaker platforms. I bank with both Capitec and FNB, which gives me a useful perspective on the deposit-blocking issue (Capitec works everywhere; FNB is a constant battle with offshore sites).
I'm not a gambling industry insider. I don't work for any casino. I don't have a background in gaming regulation. What I have is a stubborn insistence on testing claims before publishing them, and a frustration with the gap between what casino review sites say and what SA players actually experience.
How I test
Every casino review follows the same process. See the full detail at our editorial methodology page, but in short:
- Real deposits. I use my own Capitec and FNB accounts. I buy real vouchers from physical shops. I deposit the minimum amount first, then a larger amount (typically R300-R500) for extended testing.
- Timed withdrawals. I request a withdrawal, screenshot the request with a timestamp, and screenshot the bank notification when the funds arrive. The elapsed time is what I publish — not the casino's claimed processing time.
- Measured data. I use a Samsung Galaxy A15 on Vodacom 4G. I reset the Android data tracker before each test, play for exactly 10 minutes, and record the consumption. The data-free app tests are measured the same way.
- Documented gameplay. For Spina Zonke and Aviator testing, I track individual spin/round results in a spreadsheet. Session RTP, volatility patterns, and win distributions are calculated from real data, not theoretical models.
I test from Gauteng. Mobile speeds, tower congestion, and load shedding patterns may differ in other provinces — I note this on every relevant page.
Why "proof-based" matters for SA players
South Africa isn't the UK or Australia. We have specific challenges that international casino review sites don't understand:
- Data costs. At R20-R85 per GB on prepaid, an hour of mobile casino play can cost more in data than in actual bets. I measure this.
- Bank blocking. FNB, Absa, and Standard Bank all block some gambling transactions. I test which methods work at which banks.
- Voucher economy. 1Voucher and OTT Voucher are lifelines for unbanked players — and I test them from real shops, not just their marketing pages.
- Load shedding. When Eskom cuts the power, your Wi-Fi dies. I test casino apps on mobile data during actual load shedding to see what holds up.
- Legal uncertainty. The distinction between SA-licensed bookmakers and offshore casinos confuses everyone. I explain it clearly and recommend SA-licensed operators first.
What "proof-based" means
Every major claim on BetProof is backed by testing evidence:
- Timed withdrawals. We request a withdrawal, note the time, and record when the money hits our bank account. No "24-48 hours" copy-pasted from the casino's FAQ — actual measured times.
- Measured data usage. We use Android's built-in data tracker to measure exactly how many megabytes each casino app consumes. Real numbers, not guesses.
- Tested deposits. We deposit with real 1Vouchers bought at Shoprite, real Ozow transfers from real bank accounts, real OTT Vouchers from spaza shops. If a method doesn't work, we tell you.
- Verified claims. If we say a casino has 1,000+ games, we counted them. If we say a bonus has 30x wagering, we read the full terms. If we say FNB blocks deposits, we tested it with a real FNB account.
